Martin Nodeland Quartet with Will Vinson at Lysverker Scene offers an evening of jazz where critically acclaimed talents reunite. Now, five years after their first album, Debut (2019), they're here to present new material at Sommerro. The acclaimed guitarist and composer Martin Nodeland, and his neo-bop quartet performs original music that is clearly inspired by both the american and nordic jazz tradition alike. With one of the last decades most prominant alto-players, Will Vinson in the lineup we're expecting an evening riveting musicianship and musical interactions.

MARTIN NODELAND

Martin Nodeland, Will Vinson, Alexander Hoholm, Raymond Storaunet Lavik og Martin Sandvik Gjerde recorded first played together back in 2019. That resulted in the critically acclaimed album “Debut”.  Now, four years later they reunite, playing new material for a few select concerts in Norway.

As a soloist Nodeland has guested ensembles such as OJKOS and Ensemble Ernst. As a leader, and a sought after side man, he has played, collaborated and recorded with a wide array of jazz heavy hitters like Will Vinson, Nduduzo Makhathini, Tore Brunborg, Ole Morten Vågan, Olga Konkova, Atle Nymo, Petter Wettre, Live Marie Roggen, Hanna Paulsberg and Gianni Gagliardi.

Originally from London, Alto Saxophonist/Composer Will Vinson has made his career in New York City and the world. Since his arrival in NYC, he has appeared and/or recorded with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ari Hoenig, Jonathan Kreisberg, Marcus Gilmore, Chris Potter, Kurt Elling, Lage Lund, Aaron Parks, Mike Moreno, Jeff Ballard, Orlando le Fleming, Shai Maestro and many others.

Over the course of many years, Will Vinson has been hailed by critics and listeners alike. His saxophone playing is executed with incredible power and dramatic sensitivity, and is characterized by his imposing sound and technique; influenced by saxophonists from Cannonball to Chris Potter, he nevertheless brings his own unique approach to every performance. Will's writing, and the playing of his colleagues, combines a great respect for the century-long jazz tradition with explorations into the rhythmic, harmonic and melodic realms of contemporary forms.
